Beatles may be coming to iTunes Soon...

If you happened to visit the iTunes music store today, you found an ad for the solo works of John Lennon. EMI and Apple recently inked a deal (AP), leaving George as the only Beatle without a digital deal. The question now? How long till I can DL Abbey Road?

Right now if you search "The Beatles" in iTunes, the only album you will see by the boys from Liverpool is their Pete Best work. That could all soon change. "John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners," Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, said in a statement released by Apple. Download a Lennon product in the next 30 days and iTunes will give you free video content as well, courtesy of Gooseninja.com (really, it was our idea). Gander On!

Universal May Pull Catalogue From ITunes

Courtesy of NME

Universal Music Group of Vivendi - the world's biggest music corporation and home to the likes of U2 and Amy Winehouse- has told Apple it would not renew its annual contract to sell music through the company, according to leaked reports.

Instead Universal said that it would market music to Apple at will, a move that could allow Universal to remove its songs from iTunes on short notice, reports New York Times.

It has been suggested that this is due to the fact that the two sides do not agree on pricing and other terms for the future.

If Universal pull their catalogue, iTunes would lose access to record labels that collectively account for one out of every three new releases sold in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.

Equally, sales of digital music through iTunes accounts for more than 15 per-cent of Universal's worldwide revenue in the first quarter of 2007.

Insiders see the move as the culmination of growing tensions between Apple founder Steve Jobs and the record industry.

In the four years since iTunes popularised the sale of music online, many in the music business have become discouraged by what they consider the be the near monopoly that Jobs has held in the digital sector, the one area of the music business that is showing significant growth.

In particular Jobs stance on song pricing and the iPod's lack of compatibility and music services other than iTunes have become points of contention. Gander On!

Euro 2012 and Obvious Thievery

It seems odd that we just posted an article relating to copyright law and we then come across this over at I guess I'm floating. The commercial below is not only a rip-off of the look Apple has developed for it's iPod campaign, they pretty much stole the Fratelli's "Flathead" and changed the words around. I know great minds think alike but this is just to obvious. The song was perfromed by a Ukranian hip-hop group name TNMK and you can check out their other horrible tunes here.

Steve Jobs Eyes Look Like This "$$ $$"

In a move that brings Paul McCartney up to date with modern bands such as Klaxons, The Beatles legend has exclusively revealed to Billboard magazine that a deal to make their back catalogue available for sale online is "virtually settled".

Meanwhile, Paul McCartney's new album Memory Almost Full will be his first solo release for the new Starbucks Hear Music label, available for download and streaming on PCs and mobile phones.

As part of its digital marketing strategy, Starbucks plans to give the record prime positioning in its Hear Music area in the Apple iTunes Store.

The digital distribution deal for McCartney is believed to belong solely to the new album and not his back catalogue.

Efforts to clear the music of The Beatles for digital distribution have been previously held up by a long-running feud between iTunes owner Apple Inc and The Beatles label, Apple Corps.

Both sides finally settled the dispute in February, paving the way for distribution via iTunes and other digital retailers. Gander On!
